Ergin
and I came to Ayvalik for a two weeks holiday in September 2003 and
returned home, heads spinning, having purchased a house on the very
last day of our holiday. Yes, it can be that easy, unlike the long
drawn out affair that is the case in buying and selling in the UK. So
we didn't return on a permanent basis until 5th November 2004. Guy
Fawkes Night - out with a bang but not without a whimper - or two!
We
have been living in the Camlik area of Ayvalik for the past six
years. For me this is six years away from my
native
England. For Ergin, six
years back in the country he had left 35 years previously, when he
pitched up in the UK for a two week holiday following his military
service, - and stayed! Our first year here was a learning curve and a
half; big adjustments for both of us to the Turkish way of things. For
Ergin,
probably more so, having been thoroughly anglicised during the
intervening years and returning to a country that has changed radically
in many ways. Some of our experiences have been good, some bad, some
amusing and some just downright bizarre. But every one of our
experiences has better equipped us to provide others with genuine
advice and to hopefully provide the kind of customer service that is
sadly so unpredictable in Turkey. Although it has to be said you will
always be given a warm welcome from the Turkish people. Hospitality is
second nature to the Turk and their doors are always open.
We bought our old Greek house in summer 2006. Restoration work was completed in April 2007, since we have been letting it for holiday rental. We hope we will have the opportunity of welcoming you to our Ayvalik Holiday House in the near future. We aim to provide a superior holiday home environment to which you will want to return again and hopefully recommend to your friends. Our guest reviews are testimony that we are getting something right! We are sure you will fall in love with Ayvalik as much as we have.
