How
to get to Ayvalik
From Istanbul
There
are several bus companies running coach services to Ayvalik from
Istanbul, in particular we would recommend Kamil Koc, Varan or Anadolu
(a new company which people are already talking highly of). These are
very comfortable with reclining seats and hot and cold drinks and
snacks provided within the price, which is approximately 50 TL per
person one way. The journey takes around eight hours and there are
several services a day, including an overnight coach. From Istanbul
there are 7 pick up points so it depends upon which area you will be
staying. Your hotel should be able to direct you to the nearest Kamil
Koc, Varan or Anadolu office so that you can book your tickets once you
have arrived in Istanbul and the companies also provide a service bus
from their offices to take you to the nearest coach pick up point.
Take the IDO ferry boat from Yenikapi, European side, in Istanbul to Bandirma which takes approximately two hours and then from Bandirma take a bus to Balikesir and change for Ayvalik which would take a further four hours. But the good news is that you will be able to take a direct bus to Ayvalik from Bandirma during the summer months.
Take an internal Borajet flight from Sabiha Gokcen airport on the Asian side of Istanbul to Balikesir Korfez Airport in Edremit, 50km North of Ayvalik, which takes approximately 45 minutes. This costs between 50 and 120 TL, again depending on time of year. From the airport to Ayvalik there is a service bus which brings you direct to the Ayvalik bus station - a half hour journey.
Take an internal flight from Ataturk Airport on the European side of Istanbul to Izmir and then from Izmir you would need to take either a Sebat or Anadolu bus to Ayvalik. The bus journey takes approximately two and a half hours and brings you directly into Ayvalik bus station. The bus journey costs between 15-18 TL. The flight costs would need to be confirmed as they vary according to time of year.
From Izmir
Izmir
Menderes Airport is for international and domestic arrivals and
departures. From the airport you can either hire a car or
alternatively, take a local bus (Havas) to Izmir bus station (about 20
minutes) where you can catch a direct bus, (Sebat or Anadolu to
Ayvalik. The journey time is approximately two and a half hours.
From the Greek
island Lesvos
You
can take a flight to the Greek Island of Lesvos (Mytilini Airport) and
then take a ferry boat across to Ayvalik, but please note, the ferry
boat schedules can be unpredictable and should be checked daily. Ferry
boat jorney time is about 1.5 hours.
If travelling by car, the routes from both Istanbul and Izmir are uncomplicated but do be aware that they are heavily patrolled by traffic police so travel documentation and speed limits should be strictly adhered to.
Canakkale/Galipoli, Assos, the Kaz Mountains, Izmir, Kozak and Bergama are all within one to two hours from Ayvalik.
