How  to get to Ayvalik

AYVALIK, situated 2km west of the main E87 coast road between Izmir and Canakkale, is a charming and down to earth small fishing port that makes a living from olive-oil production, the processing of local agricultural produce, saltpans and low-key tourism. Approximately 30 small islands surround the bays of Ayvalik, the largest being Cunda (Alibey), which is connected to Ayvalik by a road causeway. The Greek island of Lesvos sits ever watchful on the horizon as a reminder of the 1923 Exchange of Greek and Turkish Populations Agreement following the Turkish Independence War.

Izmir Menderes Airport is the nearest for European arrivals. The journey from the airport is approximately two hours. Alternatively, you may wish to fly to Istanbul for a few days and then travel down to Ayvalik by coach or car. Including a ferry to either Bandirma from the European side of Istanbul or Yalova from the Asian side; the journey by car takes approximately 5 hours and by coach, approximately 8 hours, and has greatly improved due to ring roads around Bursa and Balikisir. There is also a small airport, Korfez, 50km North of Ayvalik at Edremit where there are 30 minute flights to and from Istanbul with a bus link to take you from the airport to Ayvalik. These normally fly on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. A further alternative is to fly to Mytelini Airport on the island of Lesvos and take the ferryboat across to Ayvalik. Road links between Ayvalik and Izmir are extremely good and uncomplicated and a pretty much a straight run on the E87.

Cannakkele, Assos, the Kaz Mountains, Kozak and Bergama are all easily accessible from Ayvalik.
